You and your dog are cordially invited to the Long Beach Museum of Art.
No–you didn’t just misread that.
From now till September first, LBMA hosts the West Coast premiere of the unique exhibition “Architecture for Dogs“. And you’re invited to bring your (small, leashed) dog and come see how you might be able to improve life for both of you!
Whimsical as it sounds, “Architecture for Dogs” is actually the result of a thoughtful four-year study by noted architect/designer Kenya Hara. Long Beach Museum of Art Executive Director Ron Nelson says the project is based on the ways we relate to the canines in our lives.
For this particular project, Kenya Hara and eleven other designers each spent time observing a specific breed of dog. Then, based on that particular animal’s needs, each designed a structure for that dog’s lifestyle.
Ron talked about the popular “Architecture for Dogs” exhibition, currently on the Long Beach stop of its world tour, and how the pieces reflect the natures of the dogs for whom they were designed.
“Architecture for Dogs” is on display at the Long Beach Museum of Art from now through Sunday, September 1. Museum hours are Thursdays, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays through Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. And yes, your dog is welcome, as long as you can carry him or her, and be sure he or she is on a leash.
